Velvet really does love to do her own thing— it's not like they can't handle being separated at all, so the twins are wont to go off on their own and investigate things as long as there isn't some deep secret to hide.
But she doesn't usually.... avoid Veneer, and by the time evening rolls around it sure must seem like she's given him the cold shoulder, considering she's not looked him in the face all day. Even now she's curled up in a chair facing the door, nose deep in a magazine, face obscured.
Surely... surely she isn't mad, right? If she was mad about something she would be loud about it, right? But Velvet just continues acting like her magazine is the most important thing in the world, even more interesting than judgy TV shows.
Something isn't right, and it lookslike Veneer won't know what until he asks.]
Velvet giving him the silent treatment isn't anything new, but that's just it, he can tell when her tantrums are...normal. Veneer can usually pinpoint what trigged yet another bout of cold shoulder, but he's just completely clueless this time around. Weren't they getting along? He took the bar job like she wanted, they share the same friends!
Just...the utter disrespect that she can sit in the room HE lets her stay in, and she just...just ignores him?!]
Alright, did I do something?!
[He's probably waited all day to ask her, there's no way he'd confront her out in the open.]
[His ears fold back, tail lashing. Very well, if that's the game they're playing, then he's just going to have to swipe that magazine right from her hands.]
What even is this— Since when have you ever cared about Heaven trends?!
[Velvet isn't the sort to give tiny offended gasps.
And as the son of not one but two dentists, he can at least notice slight imperfections in someone's...um, mouth. The fact that she's trying to hide it isn't exactly helping, either. All he knows is he saw a flash of yellow, which is exactly the the kind of color you DON'T want in your mouth-]
[There's not much that drives Velvet to hide, either. It's shame that does it— that fear of judgement— but all that gives is more confirmation. There is something to judge.
Velvet covers her mouth with both of her hands, and— hisses, much like Veneer did before. Her tail flicks threateningly, wiggling like a snake.]
He thought she was acting weird before, but if Velvet doesn't want to be looked at, then something happened. Did...did one of her teeth rot off or something? It has to be gnarly, maybe some horrible hell...thing happened to her mouth. Like a weird, twisted punishment. Attacking her vanity is absolutely the way to go when it comes to tormenting his sister, after all.]
[She stops, sure, but her hands remain over her mouth. Her soft little ears fold back, and she shoves Veneer lightly with her elbow— mostly because it's not a very effective way to shove someone, trying to keep your mouth covered, and all.]
Veneer squints, like he doesn't believe what he's seeing. He almost wishes it was an infection, because at least they can heal that. This is just...no, he refuses. He's going to give into his denial.]
Whaaaaaat? Did you cover your tooth or something? What IS that? Take it off.
No. That's not the whole tooth, is it?! You ripped out your cute lil fang?! Why... Why would you do that?! HOW did you do that? You had a WHOLE medical procedure without me knowing??!

[It's probably not as elevated a reaction as he's expecting. Velvet just flicks her eyes up from her magazine— and then looks right back at it.]
What are you talking about?
no subject
You know exactly what I'm talking about!!
[His ears fold back, tail lashing. Very well, if that's the game they're playing, then he's just going to have to swipe that magazine right from her hands.]

Velvet's hand slaps over her own mouth and she reaches for the magazine, complaining—]
I'm hate reading!
Give it back!

Ew, is there something in your teeth?!

I mean, I can get you a toothpick...

Ugh, just keep it—
[She says about the magazine, attempting to get up from her chair to stomp past Veneer—]
no subject
Vel, this could be serious! If it hurts, you might have to see a dentist!!
no subject
My parents were dentists too, y'know!
[She stops, sure, but her hands remain over her mouth. Her soft little ears fold back, and she shoves Veneer lightly with her elbow— mostly because it's not a very effective way to shove someone, trying to keep your mouth covered, and all.]

If it's nothing, then you wouldn't hide it so hard.
[Greed...Greed called him smart, so...yeah! You know what? He's not going to just fold, he's going to follow his hunch!]
Lemme see how bad it is.
no subject
It's not bad. I just know you're going to have something to say.
[Everyone is. Everyone's going to have something to say and she hates it.
Still, she kind of starts lowering her fingers... Even though she keeps her face turned away so that he still wouldn't be able to see.]
no subject
[He's only her number one hype man! Still, he can't imagine something discolored in her mouth is anything to get excited about...?]
Besides, you're gonna have to show me eventually. You can't seriously expect to NOT LOOK AT ANYONE for the rest of...forever, do you?!
no subject
I could do it.

VEL!!

[Fine! She drops her hands— and there it is, a shining golden fang. Just the one.
It looks like Angel's.
It looks like Valentino's.]
